Mindy Cho grew up in sunny Southern California, and received her BFA in Illustration/Fine Art from Laguna College of Art and Design in 2013. Heavily influenced by the anatomical sketches of Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo, her college years were spent focused on figure drawing and painting. Through her figurative work, she learned that she had a passion for anatomy and the workings of the human body. With a career in medical illustration, she has discovered the bond of art and medicine.
In 2016, Mindy gratefully accepted a coveted spot in Augusta University’s medical illustration graduate program and earned her Master of Science in Medical Illustration in May 2018. She had the opportunity to explore unique types of traditional and digital media-such as carbon dust and 3D animation, respectively. She has experience creating visuals for surgical atlases, medical exhibitions to be seen by a jury, and anatomy textbooks.
Growing up, Mindy found scientific subjects intimidating, and therefore she is fully aware of how the presentation of complex subject matter can affect the understanding of it. Her experiences have given her true insight into what engages learners, and how to do so in an aesthetic way. It is her passion now to use her art and science background to be an educator. Taking graduate level science courses alongside dental and medical students has provided her with a strong background in Biology. Mindy is currently on working towards becoming a Certified Medical Illustrator.
